Special Olympics Manitoba Proposal

A PR Proposal for the Special Olympics Manitoba 2025 Provincial Summer Games

Challenge

Special Olympics Manitoba hadn't held a Provincial Summer Games since 2017 and needed to rebuild momentum with a younger audience. With only a small budget and a tight timeline, the challenge was to broaden awareness and drive real action to gain more volunteers, more attendees, and more social media engagement for the Special Olympics Manitoba 2025 Provincial Summer Games.

Approach

I proposed a campus and high school booth tour running throughout May 2025, hitting two high schools and two post-secondary campuses each week across Manitoba. Each booth featured volunteer information, event details, newsletter sign-ups, and a raffle for prizes like Winnipeg Sea Bears tickets to drive engagement. To build excitement ahead of each booth appearance, a weekly "Athlete of the Week" social media series was launched on Instagram and Facebook, highlighting the personal stories of competing athletes, who would then appear at that week's booth in person. Posters with QR codes would be placed at each school to capture sign-ups even outside of booth hours.

Outcome

The campaign set measurable targets of a 15% increase in Summer Games attendance, a 25% rise in volunteer applications, 300 new Instagram followers, and 100 new email list subscribers, which could be tracked through raffle entries, QR code scans, social media analytics, and volunteer application monitoring. The strategy was designed to create lasting community connections beyond the event itself, with a secondary goal of registering 50 Manitoba schools in Special Olympics Manitoba programs by August 2025.
